We all know that choosing the right mobile phone contract can be difficult at the best of times. There are a huge number of tariffs out there, as well as an even greater number of handsets. So how do you choose between the thousands of different mobile phone contracts that are available in the marketplace? Moby1 is a price comparison website that will compare mobile phone contracts from the largest online retailers saving you time and money. There are no pushy sales people here, just plain talking facts. You choose the deal that is right for you. There are 2 handsets that we would recommend at the moment, the first one being the Samsung Pixon 12, a 12 megapixel cam phone which builds upon the success of the already popular Samsung Pixon. The second phone that is looking like it will be very popular is the Sony Ericsson Yari a raft of phones that have been introduced by Sony Ericsson over the past couple of months. Both of these handsets look set to be huge sellers when they are finally released, so why not check them out to see if they would suit you?

Mobile phone contracts are a complex business, especially if you are looking to get one of the latest handsets. Several things that you need to bear in mind are, the monthly allowance of minutes and texts, as well as the monthly cost of your contract, coupled with the duration. All these aspects will affect what type of mobile phone contract you decide to go for. There are some truly excellent handsets in the pipeline due for release later this year, in particular we would recommend the Nokia 5630 one of the soon to be released Xpressmusic range of mobile phones from Nokia. The 5630 offers user unlimited access to a huge music collection that owners can access and download free of charge (for the first 12 months anyway). The second phone that we think will be a winner is the Nokia E52 a business mobile phone that helps make organising you life that much easier. There are features a plenty on the Nokia E52 and if you are someone who is always on the move, then this handset is certainly for you. Why not see them for yourself today?

Washington, May 10: Two physicists at Baylor University, US, have an idea that can turn travelling at the speed of light from science fiction to real science, just like the warp speed at which spacecraft travel in the fictional TV and film series ‘Star Trek’.

Dr. Gerald Cleaver, associate professor of physics at Baylor, and Dr. Richard Obousy, a Baylor post-doctoral student, theorize that by manipulating the space-time dimensions around the spaceship with a massive amount of energy, it would create a “bubble” that could push the ship faster than the speed of light.

To create this bubble, the Baylor physicists believe manipulating the 11-dimension would create dark energy.

Cleaver said that positive dark energy is responsible for speeding up the universe as time moves on, just like it did after the Big Bang, when the universe expanded faster than the speed of light.

“Think of it like a surfer riding a wave,” said Cleaver, who co-authored a research paper with Obousy about the new method.

“The ship would be pushed by the bubble and the bubble would be travelling faster than the speed of light,” he added.

The method is based on the Alcubierre drive, which proposes expanding the fabric of space behind a ship into a bubble and shrinking space-time in front of the ship.

The ship would not actually move, rather the ship would sit in between the expanding and shrinking space-time dimensions.

Since space would move around the ship, the theory does not violate Einstein’s Theory of Relativity, which states that it would take an infinite amount of energy to accelerate an object faster than the speed of light.

String theory suggests the universe is made up of multiple dimensions. Height, width and length are three dimensions, and time is the fourth dimension.

Scientists believe that there are a total of 10 dimensions, with six other dimensions that we cannot yet identify.

A new theory, called M-theory, takes string theory one step farther and states that the “strings” actually vibrate in an 11-dimensional space.

It is this 11th dimension that the Baylor researchers believe could help propel a ship faster than the speed of light.

Twitter is the new darling of web 2.0 and it’s attracting potential investors like flies to a ripe cowpat. The list of interest companies has now grown to include Facebook, Google and, most surprisingly, Apple. That’s according to the Silicon Valley gossips at TechCrunch anyway.

Allegedly, Apple is in “late stage negotiations” which means that all the tea and Wagon Wheels have run out and it’s time to slap a big bag of cash on the table. Apparently, Apple is offering a hefty $700 million for the surging social networking tool. The idea would be to finalise negotiations in the next few weeks and make a big announcement at WWDC in June.

So Twitter’s founders would walk away, pockets loaded with booty and Apple would control the 3rd largest (and climbing) social network in the world. But what would that mean to the Apple using community? Good question. If Apple did sink that much money into, we’d expect a significant increase in the amount of Twitter integration with its current devices.

That could mean a dramatic overhaul of the iPhone front page to provide continuous updates from the Twitter community. It could result in OS X backgrounds being swapped for a live Twitter feed. But then again, why bother? There’s already a metric ton of Twitter apps available for iPhone and for every other type of handheld or operating system you can imagine. That’s pretty much how it became this popular in the first place; although it wouldn’t hurt for it to become even more accessible, it hardly what you’d call $700m necessary.

Furthermore, there doesn’t seem to be any way in which Apple to could recover its investment. Twitter has yet to find any way of monetising its massive popularity, unless it suddenly started charging for tweets of course.

We’re thinking of calling bullshit on this one, but we’ll keep our ears to the ground, just in case El Jobso’s next ‘One more thing’ is: We’ve bought Twitter.

The problem with mobile phones, says Allan Knies, associate director of Intel Research at Berkeley, is that everyone wants them to perform like a regular computer, despite their relatively paltry hardware. Byung-Gon Chun, a research scientist at Intel Research Berkeley, thinks that he might have the solution to that problem: create a supercharged clone of your smart phone that lives in “the cloud” and let it do all the computational heavy lifting that your phone is too wimpy to handle.

CloneCloud, invented by Chun and his colleague Petros Maniatis, uses a smart phone’s high-speed connection to the Internet to communicate with a copy of itself that lives in a cloud-computing environment on remote servers. The prototype runs on Google’s Android mobile operating system and seamlessly offloads processor-intensive tasks to its cloud-based double. Details of the project will be revealed at the HotOS XII conference in Switzerland later this month.

It’s a trick not unlike the way that many Web-based applications, such as Google Docs, run on remote servers. The difference is that because CloneCloud creates a perfect copy of the phone’s software, it can take on literally any processor-intensive task that it calculates it can do faster than the phone itself, after weighing the amount of time and battery life required to transfer the required data.

The big benefit of CloneCloud is battery-life extension, which would naturally follow from lower utilization of the phone’s CPU. Chun imagines that this could become a competitive advantage for vendors, like free voice mail or unlimited data plans.

But CloneCloud wouldn’t just make smart phones more efficient: it could also make them more capable. A test application developed by Chun performs face recognition on photos. It required 100 seconds of processor time on a standard Android phone, but it finished in only one second when run by a clone of the phone running on a desktop computer. Because the software runs on a cloud-computing platform, it can be scaled in terms of the amount of both memory allocated and processing power, both of which increase performance on computationally intensive tasks.

Security could be an important potential application of CloneCloud. Ya-Yunn Su, a researcher at NEC Laboratories, in New Jersey, who previously developed a prototype system similar to CloneCloud, notes that “as smart phones become mini general-purpose computers, more of the problems we see in desktops, like viruses, will become smart-phone problems.” Virus scans, which involve checking the entire file system of a device, are exactly the sort of process that Chun envisions CloneCloud accomplishing in the background, even while the smart phone is off.

It looks like a heap of rubbish, feels like flaky pastry and has been linked to aliens. For decades, scientists have puzzled over the complex collection of cogs, wheels and dials seen as the most sophisticated object from antiquity, writes Helena Smith. But 102 years after the discovery of the calcium-encrusted bronze mechanism on the ocean floor, hidden inscriptions show that it is the world’s oldest computer, used to map the motions of the sun, moon and planets.

‘We’re very close to unlocking the secrets,’ says Xenophon Moussas,an astrophysicist with a Anglo-Greek team researching the device. ‘It’s like a puzzle concerning astronomical and mathematical knowledge.’

Known as the Antikythera mechanism and made before the birth of Christ, the instrument was found by sponge divers amid the wreckage of a cargo ship that sunk off the tiny island of Antikythera in 80BC. To date, no other appears to have survived.

‘Bronze objects like these would have been recycled, but being in deep water it was out of reach of the scrap-man and we had the luck to discover it,’ said Michael Wright, a former curator at London’s Science Museum. He said the apparatus was the best proof yet of how technologically advanced the ancients were. ‘The skill with which it was made shows a level of instrument-making not surpassed until the Renaissance. It really is the first hard evidence of their interest in mechanical gadgets, ability to make them and the preparedness of somebody to pay for them.’

For years scholars had surmised that the object was an astronomical showpiece, navigational instrument or rich man’s toy. The Roman Cicero described the device as being for ‘after-dinner entertainment’.

But many experts say it could change how the history of science is written. ‘In many ways, it was the first analogue computer,’ said Professor Theodosios Tassios of the National Technical University of Athens. ‘It will change the way we look at the ancients’ technological achievements.’

Guys are stuck wearing ties and frankly they’re a pointless accessory. They just look uncomfortable and they just sort of hang there. Chicks all the time have the perk of hiding small amounts of cash in their bra, but guys are stuck using boring pockets designated for that sort of thing. Well now you can have an extra hidden pocket behind your tie. It’s specifically made for small MP3 players like the iPod Nano, but it could be used for plenty more than that. Hopefully an iPod wouldn’t put too much weight on your neck though.

Besides a Nano this could be used for various MP3 players, business cards, credit cards, money and smaller sized cellphones. If you’re using it for an iPod or other MP3 player, the earphone cord could be hidden through your button up shirt and pop up at the collar of your shirt. Making it far less visible and making it easier for you to get away with not paying attention to what’s going on around you. There are several things a tie like this could be used for, it’s entirely up to you what you store within it. A six pack of the pockets will cost you $34.95 and would have to be sewn onto your regular tie. The ties will cost you anywhere from $35 on up to about

Apple is expected to begin production on a high-end iPhone with 32GB of flash memory and a low-end 3G version this spring, according to a research report released Tuesday by Lazard Capital Markets analyst.

Production is anticipated to begin in April and ramp up in May, and the new phones could be announced in June, Daniel Amir, a Lazard Capital Markets analyst, said in his report.

He noted, however, that the low-end version may only be available in the fast-growing, emerging markets of Brazil, Russia, India, and China, while the high-end version is expected to make its way to North America and Europe.

The low-end version is expected to run on a 3G network, rather than on Wi-Fi, while the high-end version is anticipated to double its storage capacity from 16GB to 32GB of NAND flash memory and feature improvements to its camera, Amir noted in his report, citing checks with Apple’s iPhone channel partners.

Meanwhile, Amir predicts, iPhone unit shipments for the first and second quarters could be higher than Wall Street’s current forecast.

He expects iPhone shipments to come in around 3.8 million to 4 million in the first quarter, while Wall Street is anticipating 3 million to 3.5 million units.

In the second quarter, iPhone shipments could reach 7 million to 8 million units, a threefold to fourfold increase over last year’s second quarter performance, he asserts. Apple’s new iPhones are expected to account for about 3 million of these figures, Amir said. Wall Street, meanwhile, is expecting Apple to ship 6.5 million to 7 million iPhones in the second quarter.

Apple was not immediately available for comment.

Reports of an Apple flash-memory buying binge surfaced in February, with one analyst from Think Equity Partners noting that Apple had virtually cleaned out one large supplier and was hitting up two others for more flash memory.

Amir told Best4tech New that the February rise stemmed from increased production for the iPhones that shipped in March. In order to meet its needs for a 32GB iPhone, Apple will hit up its suppliers up toward the end of next month, he said.

Amir noted in his research report:

About 20 percent of all NAND capacity goes to Apple, and its impact on the NAND market should not be underestimated…

NAND prices should move up further off the Apple orders. We believe that with the new iPhone design which could include 32GB NAND, Apple is setting the stage for another potentially big flash order starting in April. With the potential for 3 million units to be shipped in 2Q, we believe the magnitude of such an order could enable prices of NAND components to move up an additional 20 percent in the (first half) of 2Q.
